We got into whippets after Twist, our cocker of 14 years, passed away. We waited a month and Yvonne could not stand not having a dog under her feet. I wanted a greyhound but Yvonne refused to have that big of a dog. Her boss has a whippet, so we started looking at web sites to see if this breed would work for us. Surprising enough, the more we checked, the more we liked. We used web sites like Pedigree's SELECT-A-DOG and no matter how many times we did the survey whippets ranked in the top 5 or higher. We decided that a whippet is what we wanted and in our ignorance, we thought we could call around and find a pet quality whippet or a rescue. Ignorance is bliss, because we got lucky. Yvonne went on line and looked for breeders in our area so we could pick one up. After sending out e-mails we found none in or area or at least none that anyone was gong to sell to these unknowns from Vancouver. However, Tracy Hite (Tivio Whippets) e-mailed us that there may be one coming from Kansas that may need a home and gave us the breeder's number. The breeder happened to be Ron & Linda Waggoner (Castlecrest).Yvonne called Ron (woke him up, just got in from Kansas) and discussed Ziggy. After a few calls, he decided to give us a chance and on his way to a show in Walla Walla he would drop him off for the weekend to see if he was what we wanted, plus time for them to interview us to see if we were good whippet candidates. We received Ziggy on April 27, 2000 from the Waggoner's, it was quite an adventure getting him, if you know Ron you know what I am talking about, if you don't, you do not know what you're missing. Well we took him home and he took to Yvonne and that was all she wrote. We had our first whippet!
